Kara Mia: A Culinary Jewel in Markham, Ontario

First time we dined at Kara Mia. The service was very good and swift although it started to get busy, well, for good reasons! As for the food, the quality and the taste were both great! Kudos to the chefs! If you want a well cooked to the taste, juicy, 11-oz steak with a variety of savory sauces, or yummy ribs, chicken, and pasta dishes, this is the joint to go to. The prices are also reasonable. We will go there again with friends and family. Highly recommended.

First things first, service was phenomenal. The server was very kind and paid attention to everything and was very energetic. We were a large group and we called in on short notice. Even though the restaurant closes at 9:30 staff stayed an entire hour after for us and were extremely accommodating the whole time. Image was the Kara Mia Special. The pasta was well-prepared with a smooth, creamy sauce. The saffron chicken was cooked properly and had decent flavour. Overall, the meal was satisfactory. Strong point was definitely the service so worth the visit and a solid 8/10!

We got the fettuccine with chicken, fettuccine with “black tiger shrimp” (more on that in a sec), and a poutine that could probably feed a small hockey team. Let’s start with the pasta: the sauces were tasty and cozy, like a warm blanket for your taste buds. But the pasta-to-stuff ratio was off—like 80% pasta, 20% actual goodies. Especially with the shrimp dish. We ordered “black tiger shrimp,” expecting those big, majestic sea beasts, but what arrived were five regular-sized shrimp pretending to be something they’re not. Kind of like dressing a housecat in a lion costume. Cute, but not quite what we were expecting. Now, the poutine. Flavor was on the shy side—kind of like that one friend who whispers their opinions—so we had to introduce it to our salt and pepper shakers. But the portion? Absolute unit. Final thoughts: great flavors, epic serving sizes, but we got catfished by the tiger shrimp. Would come back? Yes

Wow, Kara Mia totally blew me away! The Saffron Poutine was insanely good—crispy fries with this rich, saffron-y gravy and melty cheese. The Caesar Salad was super fresh, with a zingy dressing I couldn’t get enough of. My Chilli Saffron Steak was juicy, perfectly cooked, and had a spicy saffron kick that was just chef’s kiss. The Penne Piccante Rosé was spicy in the best way, with a creamy sauce that clung to every bite. And the Fettuccine Alfredo? So creamy and comforting, I’m still dreaming about it. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful, the vibe was cozy, and the staff were awesome. Can’t wait to come back!

I celebrated my birthday here and I had the best time. The food was very good and very good portions as well. The plates look really small online but in person they’re deep dish and contain a lot of pasta. I had the steak rose pasta and the steak was very tender and juicy. The only thing I would say is that I was a little disappointed with the appetizer size. I wish the serving size was 6 for the garlic bread not 4. The Kara mia cocktail was also so good.

Whether you’re a pasta lover or just looking for a great meal, Kara Mia never disappoints. Highly recommend trying their signature dishes—you won’t regret it! 10/10 will be back for more!
